Low energy spin fluctuations in the heavy fermion compound Ce0.925La0.075Ru2Si2

چکیده
We report inelastic neutron scattering measurements performed on a single crystal of the heavy fermion compound Ce0.925La0.075Ru2Si2, which is at the borderline between an antiferromagnetically ordered and a paramagnetic ground state. Intensity maps as a function of wavevector and energy (0.1 < E < 1.2 meV) were obtained at temperatures T = 0.1 and 2 K, using the time-of-flight spectrometer IRIS. An unexpected saturation of the relaxation rate and static susceptibility of the spin fluctuations is found at low temperatures.

Quantum phases and fluctuations in correlated electron systems with frustration and competing interactions are reviewed. In the localized moment case the S=1/2 J1 - J2 - model on a square lattice exhibits a rich phase diagram with magnetic as well as exotic hidden order phases due to the interplay of frustration and quantum fluctuations. Their signature in magnetocaloric quantities and the hig...
متن کاملInelastic neutron scattering study of single crystal heavy fermion YbAgGe
Single crystals of the heavy-fermion compound YbAgGe have been studied by neutron scattering. The magnetic ordering occurring below T1 ≈ 0.5 K is characterized by a commensurate propagation vector k=(1/3,0,1/3) and the moments in the basal plane of the hexagonal structure. The dynamic magnetic susceptibility is dominated by quasielastic spin fluctuations with a characteristic energy Γq(T ) of t...
متن کاملExtended Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance Study of the Heavy-Fermion Superconductor PuCoGa5
PuCoGa5 has emerged as a prototypical heavy-fermion superconductor, with its transition temperature (Tc ' 18.5 K) being the highest amongst such materials. Nonetheless, a clear description as to what drives the superconducting pairing is still lacking, rendered complicated by the notoriously intricate nature of plutonium’s 5f valence electrons. Here, we present a detailed Ga nuclear quadrupole ...
متن کاملField-induced quantum fluctuations in the heavy fermion superconductor CeCu2Ge2
Quantum-mechanical fluctuations in strongly correlated electron systems cause unconventional phenomena such as non-Fermi liquid behavior, and arguably high temperature superconductivity. Here we report the discovery of a field-tuned quantum critical phenomenon in stoichiometric CeCu(2)Ge(2), a spin density wave ordered heavy fermion metal that exhibits unconventional superconductivity under ≃10...
متن کاملThermoelectric behavior near the magnetic quantum critical point
We use the coupled two-dimensional spin–three-dimensional fermion model proposed by Rosch et al. @Phys. Rev. Lett. 79, 159 ~1997!# to study the thermoelectric behavior of a heavy-fermion compound when it is close to an antiferromagnetic quantum critical point. When the low-energy spin fluctuations are quasi-twodimensional, as has been observed in YbRh2Si2 and CeCu62xAux , with a typical two-dim...
